CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The saying goes, "out with the old, in with the new," but not in Clarksville. The city just approved a plan for a new development that would also preserve a historic home.
The new mixed-use development is called The Joseph.
The plans include two four-story buildings connected by a bridge.
You can see in this rendering that The Joseph still allows people to see the Dunlop Mansion from the street. The mansion has been around for more than a century.

Our news partner, Clarksville Now, reported in 2023 that there were plans to demolish the mansion, but this new project would preserve it instead.
Ward 6 Councilmember Wanda Smith says there was some controversy surrounding the new development because of the historic nature of that property.
However, she said, "The new addition of The Joseph apartments will give Clarksville's downtown a modern-day facelift and provide a viable place to live to enjoy the amenities while increasing foot traffic and revenue in the area."
The Clarksville Planning Commission gave its final okay for the project on Monday, which means construction can now begin any day.
