CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Austin Peay State University will be leaving the Atlantic Sun Conference in July 2026 to join the Western Athletic Conference, which is rebranding as the United Athletic Conference.
The ASUN and WAC announced a partnership alliance between the conferences.
The five football-playing members of the ASUN, which includes APSU, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama and West Georgia, will join WAC members Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and Texas-Arlington to create a new eight-school, all-sports conference. UT-Arlington does not have a football program.

The ASUN will continue with seven members, including Lipscomb, Bellarmine, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, North Florida, Queens and Stetson.
The two leagues will operate independently and have their own championships and NCAA Championship qualifiers, but the partnership is in place to help with scheduling and other factors.
