Woman found dead after Clarksville apartment fire

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 50-year-old woman was found dead inside a Clarksville apartment Wednesday by crews responding to a fire.

Clarksville Fire Rescue said personnel responded to a tri-plex on Darlene Drive around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Arriving crews saw light smoke coming from the front door and found a woman inside the apartment, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A neighbor smelled smoke and heard the smoke alarm going off and called 911, according to Clarksville Fire Rescue. The neighbor reportedly knocked on the door, trying to get the neighbor to open it, before they went inside the apartment and saw smoke and a smoldering fire.

Firefighters said they were able to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials identified the woman who died as 50-year-old Gina Michelle Wes, saying, "At this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to Gina Wes' family and friends, whose lives have been irreversibly impacted by this heart-wrenching loss. We urge the community to join us in supporting and comforting those affected by this tragic event, offering our love, sympathy, and any assistance they may require during this trying period."
