CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Recovery from major storms takes a long time, but one Tennessee nonprofit is speeding up the process in Montgomery County.

The group Appalachia Service Project is breaking ground next Tuesday, building new homes for three families in Clarksville after the December 2023 tornadoes, and they're looking for more families to serve.

In 2023, an EF-3 touched ground near Clarksville, damaging more than 1,000 homes. A lot of the areas hit are still on the road to recovery.

However, the Appalachia Service Project is building three homes mortgage-free, and they're looking for about 11 more families to give homes to in the future.

"If you think about the tornado, it happened in December of 2023 and it's April 30 of 2025, so they have not been living comfortably and have been dealing with that trauma for some time. When they're able to move into a new home, I think they can breathe again," United Way of Greater Nashville's Lori Shinton said.

Appalachia Service Project is also looking for volunteers, material donors, and licensed contractors to get involved with the build.
